NOVA Information Management School (IMS), located in Lisbon, Portugal, is seeking talented postdoctoral researchers interested in applying for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (Marie Curie PF) with MagIC as their host institution. Project: Multimodal Conversational Agents Combining Large Language Models and Text-to-Speech. This project will study next-generation conversational agents that combine LLM-based dialogue generation with expressive Text-to-Speech. The aim would be to move beyond text-only chatbots toward natural, spoken, emotionally aware, and context-sensitive AI assistants for education, training, customer support, or institutional communication. Objectives: (1) Integrate LLMs with controllable TTS systems to produce coherent, natural, and context-aware spoken responses. (2) Study how prosody, emotion, and speaking style affect user trust, engagement, and comprehension. (3) Develop evaluation frameworks for spoken conversational AI, including linguistic quality, usefulness, safety, and user experience. (4) Build and test proof-of-concept applications in domains such as digital learning, professional training, or citizen-facing institutional services.
